Arethusa

Arethusa was a nymph follower of Artemis. It occured that Arethusa became the object of desire of the river god Alpheus. To escape his pursuit she appealed to Artemis who changed her into an underground spring which surfaces on the island of Ortygia which is part of the ancient city of Siracusa, home of Archimedes.
