Stephensonia
Not quite "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" - it is a series of novels by Neal Stephenson. Volume I is Quicksilver, and was published in September 2003. Volume II is The Confusion, and was published in April 2004. Volume III is The System of the World and was published in September 2004. There is some narrative, thematic, and familial continuity between the novels of the Baroque Cycle and Stephenson's previous novel Cryptonomicon.
