Stephenson:Neal:The Confusion:582:Theatrum Chemicum (Alan Sinder)
From the Quicksilver Metaweb.
This is The Confusion page for the steel seen in the wootz-vale
Stephensonia
The nosy alchemy-minded Enoch Root educates Jack Shaftoe about possible local assets but Gabriel Goto opens the Vagabond king's eyes to the lovely profits of smuggling with closed markets - (the shade of Drake Waterhouse must be dancing with glee). But he's always seen the value in watered steel. There is also a link with phosphorus here. One has to wonder what's in the ancient chemistry text Enoch is talking about here.
